MOCK TRIAL
What is a mock trial?
A mock trial is a pretend trial and may involve either civil or criminal issues, just like a real trial. Some court rules and procedures are modified to simplify the process. In a mock trial, the students present the case and act as the main characters in the courtroom. The purpose of the mock trial is to learn more about courtroom procedures and the people and rights involved with the legal system. It also teaches how to evaluate both sides of an issue and resolve conflicts in a nonviolent manner. A mock trial follows the trial procedure of the lower courts.
Our Mock Trial Program is one of the best in the nation
Since 2008, our teams have led a program that has earned 9 region championships, 9 appearances at the South Carolina State Tournament, 4 State Championships, and 3 appearances at Nationals—finishing 22nd, 13th, and 2nd in the nation. Under their leadership, our team has also competed for four years at the prestigious Empire Mock Trial World Championship in New York City, consistently facing elite international competition and finishing in the top ten three times.
Our coaches have not only built a championship-caliber program—they have opened doors for our students. Three team members have earned full-ride mock trial scholarships to some of the most prestigious universities in the country, and three of our top competitors have been selected to attend Furman University’s elite summer mock trial camp.
They have shaped a training environment that develops standout advocates and confident leaders, and they continue to guide students in mastering trial advocacy, public speaking, and critical thinking at the highest levels of competition.

The Empire Mock Trial World Championship in New York City, where we have competed for four years and finished in the top ten three times against teams from across the world.

The National High School Mock Trial Championship, hosted in a different U.S. city every year and featuring only the top teams in the country.
