Unique Approach

Our Unique Approach to Charter School Education

The Myrtle Beach STEM Academy (MBSA) offers a unique and future-focused educational experience that prepares students for college, careers, and life in a rapidly changing world.

This school integrates multiple school approaches into one with advanced academics, career and technical education, and early college experiences into a unified program designed to support student success. By offering multiple pathways within one school community, students are able to explore their interests, build college and career readiness, and receive the academic support they need. Families benefit from a clear, structured learning environment that emphasizes opportunity, engagement, and preparation for life beyond high school.

Our STEM-focused Charter School mission is a commitment to hands-on, inquiry-driven learning through Project-Based Learning (PBL). Integrated with the nationally recognized Project-Lead The Way (PLTW) curriculum, students engage in real-world challenges that require collaboration, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving—whether they’re developing biomedical innovations, engineering systems, or building software.

Unlike traditional high schools, MBSA offers four-year STEM major pathways in areas such as Biomedical Science, Engineering, Environmental STEM, and Computer Science. These specialized tracks allow students to dive deep into their interests and build college-level expertise while still in high school.

The academic experience at MBSA is intentionally rigorous. Students have access to a wide range of Advanced Placement (AP) and honors courses, dual enrollment opportunities through local colleges, and dedicated support for Gifted and Talented learners. This advanced curriculum ensures that students are both challenged and supported, and can earn college credits before graduation.

Our Charter School values follows a mastery-based model of learning that emphasizes true understanding over rote memorization. Students progress only when they have demonstrated full comprehension of key concepts, encouraging reflection, resilience, and confidence in their abilities. This personalized approach ensures that no student is left behind and that all are pushed to reach their full potential.

Beyond academics, MBSA places a strong emphasis on college, career, and life readiness. Students graduate with a portfolio of experiences—including industry internships, certifications, mentorships, and soft skills development—that give them a clear edge in both higher education and the workforce. With credentials, leadership experience, and real-world exposure, MBSA students are prepared not just to succeed, but to lead in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and medicine.

Project Lead the Way

The Myrtle Beach STEM Academy (MBSA) is proud to announce that we have been awarded four grants from Project Lead The Way (PLTW) to expand our STEM programming and opportunities for students.

MBSA has received the PLTW Gateway Grant, PLTW Computer Science Grant, PLTW Biomedical Grant, and the PLTW Engineering Grant, which will support the implementation and growth of cutting-edge STEM coursework across multiple disciplines within our school.

Through these programs, students will engage in real-world problem solving, design challenges, and advanced technical coursework that mirrors the work of professionals in science, engineering, and technology industries.

We are grateful to Project Lead The Way for investing in our students and helping us continue to build one of the most innovative and forward-thinking STEM learning environments in the region.
